Missives from Middle Earth #2 - "It’s the job that’s never started as takes longest to finish"

The last couple of months have passed in a bit of a blur. I married my partner at the end of April and we went on a mini-honeymoon the week after. We had a lovely wedding and fantastic few days away, but settling back into a routine has taken us a wee while, especially as life continues to be busy for both of us. Despite the hectic pace of the last few weeks, I've managed to keep chipping away at the reinforcements I showed off in March and they're now finished: These four Warriors bring the total up to ten and check off the foot contingent of Faramir's warband that I'd planned out. Since the last update I've also picked up and assembled Anborn and Mablung from Forge World and I very glad I did because the sculpts and cast quality are absolutely fantastic - they'll be a treat to paint up like the trio of Rangers they'll be joining. Missives from Middle Earth #3 - "The board is set, the pieces are moving. We come to it at last..."

It's been a wee while since the last Works In Progress post, but spurred on by the realisation that the weather is getting colder and the nights are drawing in, I've want to see if I can finish the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game project before the year completely gets away from me. In the last update, I mentioned that I'd picked up a set of Knights of Minas Tirith so I decided to ease back into things by getting the four I want to use assembled and based. I've tried to match up the poses of the riders with their horses so that there are two charging and two riding at a more sedate pace - giving each of the knights a little more individuality. I'm currently swithering over whether to leave the horses and riders separate from one another for painting or to just glue everything together and be done with it. Either way, I'll probably keep the shields separate for now and glue them in place once everything else is painted. While mulling over the options with t

I admit right off the bat that the miniature which inspired this post was released quite some time ago (9 months at the time of writing) so I'm probably waaaay behind the curve in sharing these thoughts in relation to this specific mini. But as the principles apply to any model and I've only just gotten around to building the mini in question, now seems as good a time as any to pontificate! Intended to inspire and motivate the soldiery of the Astra Militarum, the officers of the Commissariat are probably regarded with more fear and superstition than anything else. That is not to say that there haven’t been examples of those who haven't but cut from a different cloth, even going so far as to have forged genuine bonds with the men and women they have fought beside (such as Commissars Cain, Raine, Hark and Gaunt, for example) but for every one of these luminaries, there seem to many more who inspire more through fear anything else.
