Mythos Motors - 28mm scale vehicles from Kore

Last autumn I was offered the opportunity to pop some paint on to models from the forthcoming Mythos Motors range for Kore. When they asked what I fancied working on, I asked them to surprise me and so it was that just before Christmas last year, a mystery package arrived at Tangential Contrivances HQ containing a Mercedes-Benz W31 G4 and LG3000 printed in high quality resin. Incidentally, the G4 is a single piece while the LG3000 has a removable canvas covering for the cargo bed.

I got stuck into painting the W31 first, though decided to move away from it's rather nefarious origins as a second world war staff car and looking at it instead as an armoured limousine. Burgundy bodywork with glossy black trim seemed good choices as a kind of understated opulence - this car could be as at home on a tabletop hosting cops and gangsters in the 1930s as it would in the 41st millennial transporting a Genestealer Cult Magos to a clandestine meeting. Leaning into the idea of 'custom coachwork' I went with smoked glass so that whoever the occupants of the car are, their privacy and business is assured.

The LG3000 featured heavily in scenes in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, infact if I remember rightly, it was sculpted while watching the movie! On that basis, I thought I'd lean into that setting and go with a desert yellow drab across the truck along with some period appropriate markings taken from my decal drawer. It doesn't show very well in the photos, but I used some dust wash on the lower areas to help suggest it's been tooling about the deserts of North Africa, possibly carrying sinister wooden crates...

Painting both of these up provided a welcome challenge as it took a little bit of puzzling out how I'd go about getting to the finishes I envisaged for them. While it goes without saying that vehicles are very different to people, I find this to be doubly true with miniatures as vehicles are all flat surfaces which don't lend themselves as well to the 'basecoat, shade, highlight' style of painting that I'm more familiar with. It also offered a great opportunity to practice painting large glass areas, which was fun in itself as I've not done that for a while.

If you'd like to get your hands on your own W31 G4 or LG3000 keep your eyes peeled on Kore's socials as they are working towards launching the Mythos Motors range via Kickstarter later in spring 2026. In the meantime, as always, thanks for reading and happy hobbying.
